In the latest 24 hours, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of 60 Palestinians and injured 140 more, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Gaza’s Civil Defense has described the destruction in Beit Lahiya, a northern city in Gaza, as unimaginable.
In Beit Lahiya, the bombardment targeted the Abu Awad family home, which was sheltering approximately 40 people, leading to at least 15 deaths. The attacks also severely damaged civil infrastructure and nearby residences.
Conditions in Gaza are dire, with Mercy Corps stating that a third of the population is scavenging through garbage to survive amid the extreme summer heat.
Meanwhile, the United States is pushing for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict on the Israel-Lebanon border, according to US Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.
Since October 7, the conflict has claimed the lives of 37,718 people and left 86,377 wounded in Gaza. The death toll in Israel from the Hamas-led attacks stands at 1,139, with many individuals still held captive in Gaza.
